A hotel employee suspicious of the time the ‘do not disturb sign’ was on, found Craemer’s dead

DURBAN: Police are hunting for a 43year-old hotel guest who is believed to have shot dead a 28-year old man in his Durban hotel room before fleeing.

Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said yesterday that Jan Craemer was found dead in the Durban hotel room last week Thursday.

Zwane said initially it had been believed that the man found dead in the hotel room was the guest, but subsequent investigations had revealed that it was in fact Craemer who had visited the hotel guest on the night of November 30.

A hotel employee, who became suspicious at the length of time that the “do not disturb” sign was on, opened the door, only to find the body of Craemer, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

The guest had not informed the hotel that Craemer was staying at the hotel, and Craemer’s family reported him missing at the Bluff police station.

Zwane said the guest had checked into the hotel for two nights at about 3pm on November 30.

He was later seen leaving the hotel and returning to the hotel with Craemer.

The hotel guest left the hotel shortly after 7.30pm the same night and was not seen again.

Zwane said detectives from the police’s Point Road police station were following up several leads.

He said that he could not reveal the identity of the hotel guest. – Africa News Agency
