Necessary measures

THE article in the Cape Times “Remarks against Israel slammed” (December 7) refers.

Addressing Swedish lawmakers on Friday, Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom denounced the almost daily Palestine knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, but urges Israel to avoid overkill.

In the same article, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet: “It seems she expects Israeli citizens to bare their throats to these trying to stab them, this will not happen and we will continue to protect the lives of Israeli citizens.”

In Sweden, attacks on innocent citizens by criminals using knives is a rare occurrence.

Citizens in South Africa have, as a last resort, been forced to carry arms to defend themselves against ruthless criminals.

Consequently, criminals will be shot dead in attacks on innocent civilians as is happening in Israel. Shouting at the attackers to stop will not deter the criminal.

Shooting the attacker will be the ultimate defence.

The attacks on Israel citizens by Palestine youths using knives have become a daily occurrence and in almost every incident, the attackers are shot dead by Israeli’s defending themselves, yet the attacks continue. It has been increasingly apparent that the attacks spurred on by radical Muslim clerics are in fact suicide missions.
