- MOTORING STAFF

THE INAUGURAL Concours South Africa car show and competition, which will feature around 150 of the country’s finest collector cars, is set to take place at Sun City this September.

Similar to famous car shows such as Pebble Peach in the US and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy, the new event will put an upper class range of classic, luxury and sports vehicles on display over Sun City’s sprawling lawns.

All entered vehicles will then be put under scrutiny by eagleeyed judges, each inspecting the cars for originality, quality of restoration and meticulous attention to detail.

Car owners and showgoers alike are encouraged to dress in chic attire appropriate to the nature of the special vehicles and the event.

“The Sun City venue provides the ideal backdrop to showcase South Africa’s finest classic and historic cars,” says veteran supercar aficionado and Concours South Africa organiser, Ross Crichton. the

“The venue enables participants to enjoy the cars and themselves to the fullest over an unforgettable weekend, surrounded by like-minded people.”

Concours South Africa will run from September 9 to 11. Entries for the registration of cars has opened for both Concours and Show and Shine competitions, but closes on June 30. Spectator entrance is free. For more information visit www.concourssa.co.za

The Concours d’Elegance has its roots in 17th century France, when the aristocracy would parade their horse-drawn carriages through the parks of Paris.

With the advent of the automobile, Concours d’Elegance events evolved into competitions between automobile manufacturers, custom coachbuilders, and owners, whose vehicles were judged on the beauty of their design.
