Father to stand trial over rape
THE trial of the 42-year-old Soshanguve father who confessed to having repeatedly raped his daughter will start in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Mathews Nkoadi said that since the father had already confessed to the crime and has not made a request for bail, the matter was postponed for trial to commence immediately.
The father was apprehended after a neighbour tipped off police on the suspicion that a little girl was possibly being abused in Extension 14 in the area.
“The neighbour said the girl had been acting strangely and was often isolated, and when she approached the child, she grew more suspicious and reported the matter to the police,” said Nkoadi.
He said scratch marks were found on the girl’s back by officers on call and she was taken to a nearby clinic, where a medical practitioner confirmed that the girl had indeed been repeatedly raped and assaulted.
On further enquiry, the girl informed police that she had been raped by her father, who was usually present in the house.
The scratch marks were allegedly a result of physical assault when the girl refused the man’s advances.
The man was immediately arrested and confessed to having slept with the girl on several occasions.
