It’s a ‘Classic Reconciliation’ at Yellow Wood Primary School
ON December 16, Reconciliation Day, Fine Music Radio, together with the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, No-Name Initiative and Yellow Wood Primary School aim to foster national unity through music.
The youth orchestra will perform in a concert aptly titled Classic Reconciliation at Yellow Wood Primary in Mitchell’s Plain on December 16th.
This celebrates the culmination of a five-day workshop, led by international facilitators.
Under the baton of German conductor Thomas Lange, the concert stars amongst others piano prodigy Leo Gevisser.
Cedric Viret, music teacher from Yellow Wood Primary School is proud of the school’s cultural ethos, “We are an Arts and Culture active school that thrives to expose all learners to all spheres of arts.
“At present we have an active school choir, contemporary dancers and visual artists.”
Honing in on themes of music and reconciliation, Jonelle Naude Chairperson of NNI, the NGO that has facilitated the training together with Resonance Training, explains, “Reconciliation work does not always have to be hard or painful, sometimes it might even involve beautiful music, resonance and fun”.
A sentiment shared by Laurika Steenkamp, CTPO’s Youth Development Manager, “Bringing communities together on reconciliation day with classical music as the facilitator to understanding each other’s worlds in SA is just wow!”
FMR’s itinerary starts at noon when FMR listeners arrive at Artscape Theatre. Together with Rodney Trudgeon they wil take a bus to Yellow Wood Primary. At 12:.5 pm: tea and cake will be served at the school followed by Trudgeon’s pre-concert talk at 1.15pm, The Classic Reconciliation Day Concert at 2pm. The bus will return to Artscape at 4pm.
