It’s an appropriate time to show the tenderness inherent in human beings

- Sandile Dikeni

OKAY, while this is supposed to be good month, when we celebrate the birth of that beautiful chap from Bethlehem, it is wise that we remember the sad end of another powerful symbol for this country and the world; Nelson Mandela.

Eish! December has a grace of presenting to us the elegances of celebration and sadness.

Look, the moment of joy is the celebration of the birth of that man whose birth, according to popular knowledge, is celebrated this month. You know that tremendous person from Bethlehem.

Here, in South Africa, another tremendous historical figure made an exit from life. My thinking is that life balances itself.

I am not drawing any parallels between Christ and Mandela, but expressing the astounding reality of their sad coincidences in this month. It is not easy to ignore the symbolical greatness of such a coincidence. Is it?

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Desmond Tutu in his narrative of Mandela’s release narrates how Mandela stayed with him at Bishop’s Court.

I do read a pleasant coincidence between Christ and Mandela. Yes, I do see a positive essence carried by the incredible life of Rolihlahla as a positive symbol carried by this moment called life.

I am further amazed by the sweet lack of bitterness he carried in transforming this country.

Trying to avoid the sadness of his death this month, I am pleading that we rather focus on the beauties of life. He spent his life trying to tabulate the positives of a life where the graces of the human being are celebrated rather than tormented or tortured.

That is groovy. I like the notion of a festive season.

Maybe that is why Madiba chose this month to depart. Was he not asking that we remember him when we recall that amazing charm of Mary and Joseph’s child?

I am not ready to go crazy in admiration of the cool that Jesus represents, but rather wish to advise that there are some normal souls able to carry that syndrome in our souls and home.

Okay, let me humbly say that I am one of those people!

It is general knowledge that I cannot tolerate evil essence or expression. It is not in my liking to see the sadness of people. Hayi, I don’t like that.

This month also does not like being mean and evil to each other. In other words, methinks that Jesus and Mandela were together in their spirits of “positive” on this country. They were both prosecuted and hated for the beauties they suggested we implement in the exhibition of the many glories of existence. And they were right. In some idyllic fashion they both have at least taught me that the majesty in our humble efforts is a loudspeake.

I know the mighty Lord can make things happen, but let me say that I pray that He hurries a bit this time.

It is also general knowledge that the messages are quite a lot around this time, but I am pleading that mine be prioritised. It is more humble than the others. It is also more urgent than the others.

There is a plea here that we reach out to the positive and dance with it, before it invites us to the dance.

There is a generous plea in my heart that the awesome grace of the spirit that tends to be around now at this time be allowed to grace our souls with the elegance of tenderness.

It is also amazing that the world tends to listen to the graceful of its peoples at this time of the year, but let us plead that it listens with deeper ear and a sense of amazing humility to our current urgencies.

It is an important time for many in the world to be told about the majesties of Mandela and about how the next moment of pain can be silenced by souls’ attachment to graceful thought.

Being kind and sweet is not a weakness of mind, but rather a greater strength owned by the human essence.

I think that being human is quite okay and very nice when we exhibit it.

We just need to teach each other about it in some softer language than what we are used to. The best time for us to exhibit that tenderness in the human being is now.
