Big Bolly ending to the year
THIS year has been a busy year on the local Bollywood scene and is set to end on a high note with arrival of Naushad Ali Khawa in the Mother City. Khawa and DJ Zuby, both from India, headline the One Night in Mumbai concert at the Grace Performing Arts Theatre in Parow on December 25 at 8pm.
Khawa was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He started his musical training when he was 3, under the tutelage of his uncle Amanat. Khawa’s father is a noted musician and his three brothers and two sisters are all in the music industry.
Aside from singing, Khawa is an accomplished musician, playing the tabla, harmonium, guitar and piano. He has participated in many competitions and received various awards. His command of the Sufi genre and classical style of singing blended with Bollywood pop music impressed judges of the Indian Idols reality show.
Apart from performing on international stage shows, he has now entered the film industry as a playback singer.
Khawa will be making his Cape Town debut in this show.
Performing for the first time in the Mother City as well is Khan, who uses the stage name DJ Zuby. He is a public personality in the Indian entertainment industry.
Khan hails from the home of Bollywood, Mumbai. He has worked on numerous stage productions and wears the crown when it comes to Bollywood nightlife events. His dedication and passion for bringing out the best in every artist is represented in his previous showcases.
It’s not often an international DJ is included in the line-up of a Bollywood musical concert. Khan’s teaming up with listed artists will certainly prove interesting for the audience.
On the bill are some of South Africa’s top performers of Bollywood music, some of them originally from Pakistan and India, but now residing here. They include Jani Punjab, Suraj, Rabia Mukkadum, Fayyazi, Nerissa and Nuur Leeman.
They will be backed by one of South Africa’s leading Indian music bands, Vishnu Entertainers. Dance sequences for the concert have been choreographed by Ahneesh Valodia, whose dancers from the group Taare will perform on the night.
