Horror, scandal of patients’ deaths

- Barbie Sandler Claremont

ONE reads with horror the scandal of the deaths of mental patients who were moved from care homes to unlicensed NGOs.

Apart from the disgraceful lying and covering up by government officials, one has to say where have we gone so wrong in this world? What sort of people were running these so-called places of care.

The deaths were not related to mental illness but sheer neglect by the people running these homes, the poor people died of hunger, TB, hypertension, jaundice, of cold and thirst.

How do human beings allow this to happen?

Many heads must roll so that there can be a wake-up call among nursing and medical personnel who allowed these deaths on their watch.

But also a big wake-up call that we as humans are so cruel to our own.

Cry, the beloved country.
