Just a few power cuts

- Barend Dippenaar Gordon’s Bay

WE ARE extremely grateful for Eskom’s assurance that we will in future have a steady, reliable electricity supply, but has it occurred to people that there are now millions of brand new generators, acquired at huge expense, standing idle in the garages of suburban homes with piles of old newspapers on top of them?

They say old petrol turns to a jellylike substance, which will disable a generator. So, would it not be nice if Eskom could again give us a power interruption every now and then, perhaps on Saturday afternoons, so that we could all in social harmony start our generators to let the suburban ambiance reverberate joyfully and burn up all the stagnant petrol?

Neighbours will be standing around their generators like friends around a braai fire and discuss sport, politics and tell jokes the kids should not hear. C’mon Eskom!
