Arm injury forces SA’s Brad Binder to sit out next few races

- MOTORING STAFF

SOUTH Africa’s Brad Binder will be forced to miss the next few Moto2 races due to requiring arm surgery.

The Moto2 rookie and and reigning Moto3 champion finished a fighting eighth in Argentina on Sunday, 12 places higher than on his Qatar debut last month.

However, he rode with a lot of pain and x-rays later revealed his arm was broken, requiring an operation and rehab. The KTM Ajo rider first broke his arm in a Moto2 testing crash late last year and it has failed to heal.

Binder’s team-mate Miguel Oliveira finished second in Sunday’s race, behind Franco Morbidelli on a Kalex.

Sunday’s MotoGP race was won by Maverick Vinales, making it two out of two for the Spaniard in his debut year on the factory Yamaha. His team-mate Valentino Rossi was second, ahead of LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow.

Reigning champion Marc Marquez and his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa both crashed out of the race, as did Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo.
