SACP issues vow to all who seek to sow seeds of division

- Barry James Mitchell South African Communist Party

THE SOUTH African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape is disgusted by the lengths at which divisive elements within the ANC will go to silence the SACP’s principled stance against confronting corporate capture, corruption, rent-seeking, patronage and abuse of state resources.

As the party in the province we had some expectations that hired thugs would be bused in to the commemorative event of our late general secretary, comrade Chris Hani.

We were not surprised that these elements might use the sombre occasion to heckle or even boo SACP leadership.

However, the release of footage showing an unknown gunman pointing a pistol towards our 2nd deputy general secretary, comrade Solly Mapaila, and then retracting has truly bewildered us all!

The SACP in the Western Cape would like to issue a clear vow to all those that seek to undermine our national democratic revolution, that seek to sow seeds of division in our alliance and attempt to take the lives of SACP members and leaders:

The SACP politburo’s call for the president to step down, as well as the list of other matters, including: the call for an independent judicial inquiry to be established to investigate the financial links and dealings between all public entities and the Gupta family and companies associated with them.

And lifestyle audits for all ministers, deputy ministers, DGs and board members of state-owned companies; the revoking of the citizenship and residential rights of the Guptas and dealing decisively with the REAL under-performers in government.

These are not calls made by an individual in the SACP, namely comrade Solly Mapaila, these are collective views that have been endorsed by provinces, istricts and branches of the SACP across the country.

Therefore, all 260 000 members of the SACP stand by these calls.

We will defend these calls and are currently and unapologetically mobilising our structures, workers and communities in an active programme to ensure the demands are implemented.

Whilst we call for cool heads in this turbulent political period, we also declare that should rented, armed thugs continue to attempt to assassinate our members and leaders, they will have to contend with the entire membership of the party as well as workers and community members we have already mobilised.
