We wish all our readers, subscribers and advertisers a blessed and joyous Eid ul Fitr
THE day of Eid ul Fitr not only marks the end of the holy month of Ramadaan, but also acts as a springboard for the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims to do some serious introspection. The world is in an absolute state of turmoil. Even here at home, our beloved South Africa is bleeding.
Rampant corruption, nepotism, crime and the complete loss of the moral compass by the leadership has made negativity and despondency the order of the day.
It is in this context that Muslims must take serious account of the national and international situation, and the role they have to play as followers of a religion that espouses values of justice, peace, love and harmony.
Among the many facets of this sacred month is the submission to strict discipline for the 30-day duration of Ramadaan.
This hallmark is admired by so many outside the house of Islam and even by those who don’t profess any faith at all.
It is therefore imperative for Muslims to practically demonstrate the ethos of their faith to the larger South African community.
We are extremely fortunate that in our rainbow nation we are a shining example to the entire world of our success as a multi-religious and multicultural society living in peace and harmony with our fellow human beings.
We are indeed the envy of the world if one only ponders the extent of atrocities taking place – many times misguidedly in the name of Islam.
Muslims have a pivotal role in society to restore the values of love, peace, goodwill and harmony among all human beings.
It is therefore a milestone occasion for the Gatesville Mosque to have launched during this blessed month what is considered the first comprehensive smartphone app to take the message of the mosque – being one of tolerance and moderation – to the world stage to great acclaim internationally.
It is incumbent on us all to embrace each other in this spirit on this auspicious day of Eid – Muslim, Christian, Jew, Hindu, agnostic, atheist and all children of humanity.
On behalf of the Imams and executive committee, we wish all Muslims an Eid full of joy and happiness.
May the grace, bounties and peace of the Almighty God be showered upon our entire nation. Sataar Parker Chairperson: Board of Trust Gatesville Mosque
