Bad weather expected to hit Mother City

THE City of Cape Town warned yesterday of high seas and galeforce winds, with the possibilit­y of flooding in areas of the city and the Cape Winelands region.

JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security; and social services, said the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre had been advised by the South African Weather Service of severe weather.

These include a gale force north-westerly winds (60-75km/ h) expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas yesterday afternoon into this morning.

“We call on residents to report weather-related emergencie­s to the City’s Public Emergency Communicat­ion Centre on 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline,” Smith said. –
