Zuma must repent

- Reverend Dixon James Minister, educator and author Port Shepstone

AS A Christian preacher, educator and writer we pray that Jacob Zuma will repent.

As human beings we have the tendency to “boot people” out when they make mistakes (intentionally or unintentionally). I’m not in any way suggesting that we condone Zuma’s misdemeanour (whatever that may be).

People have the habit of viewing the mistakes of “leaders” (including pastors and priests) as the worst compared to the laity. But, that doesn’t give anyone the right to judge them when they make mistakes.

The results of the secret ballot on Tuesday were transparent and fair. The fact that the votes went in favour of Zuma is an indication that the Sovereign God predestined him for the office at a time such as this. Why?We cannot tell but if we stopped criticising and hating our president and instead prayed that he will repent from his mistakes and be a transformed leader then, I believe we would be doing what is right and godly.

Resigning from office will not change our president. Resignation is not the solution but repentance is.

I appeal to the people of South Africa, whatever religion you are affiliated to – pray that President Zuma will repent and be reformed into a good and godly leader. To President Zuma, if you happen to read this message, I urge you to follow this acronym to see a change in your life .

Recognise your faults and failures. Engage with godly men and women for direction and spiritual help.

Pray and ask God for forgiveness and a change of life.

Eradicate all the mistakes of the past – personal or as president.

Never hold any grudge nor undermine anyone – not even the opposition.

Take positive steps to make our country the pride of Africa and the world.
