MPL linked to Worcester crash
POLICE confirmed a case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated following a crash just outside Worcester.
One of the injured was ANC MPL Siyazi Tyatyam.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut confirmed the incident, saying two vehicles collided at 10.30pm.
Initial reports alluded to Tyatyam being arrested and detained following the accident, but no arrests were made and the injured were taken to hospital.
Tyatyam confirmed that he was in an accident on Sunday night and denied he had been arrested.
“After the briefing, before Deputy Police Minister Bongani Mkongi’s visit to Worcester, I decided to come home to Cape Town. On my way back I got into an accident with a bus that had a trailer. It overtook a truck, and the trailer then veered into my path,” said Tyatyam.
He said his car collided with the trailer, and he managed to pull over to the side of the road. Then police arrived, did a check-up, and he was released. He got a lift back to Cape Town with a friend.
Mkongi visited the Avian Park community in Worcester yesterday following a flare-up of gang incidents in the area.
Together with police, he was set to engage in crime-prevention initiatives and engage with the community.
