Darfur militia keeps guns

-

DARFUR’S five states Border Guards Force (BGF) has refused to merge with the Rapid Support Forces and stated that it won’t co-operate with Khartoum’s plan to collect illegal weapons.

Last month, Sudanese Defence Minister Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf announced a plan to merge supportive forces with Sudan’s army, as a step towards implementing the recommendations of the national dialogue, which provides for the integration of militias with the Sudanese army.

The BGF consists mainly of the notorious Janjaweed militia, which fought Darfur rebels. –
