Renowned pianist Camillo Lombard is in the entertainment line-up at the Cape Times Women in Arts and Humanities Breakfast at Artscape Theatre on Tuesday. With him are Nur Abrahams and Andrea Anthony.

RENOWNED pianist Camillo Lombard has dedicated his performance at the Cape Times Women in Arts and Humanities Breakfast to the country’s women and children.

He said next week’s event will come at a significant time as his co-performer, Robin Peters, recently lost his mother.

Lombard was inspired by the role that women perform in society.

The duo will perform at the breakfast at the Artscape Theatre on Tuesday.

“We have got Robin Peters, a former student of the Cape Music Institute, who blew away the four judges of The Voice: South Africa – five seconds into his audition. He will bless us with his God-given voice,” Lombard said.

“What my mother taught me will never go away. I celebrate my wife, mother-in-law and all the women we work with. When we get on stage, those are the people we celebrate. When the audience watch our performances, we expect them to be blown away.”

On his youth growing up in Elsies River, he added: “We lived from a sink house to a council house; so to those who are facing challenges, we are saying they should not look at their challenges and see them as a setback, but allow yourself to dream and create goals to achieve in life, and to affect the people around you.”

Unmute Dance Company and Jazzart are also set to appear. Artists Andile Vellem and Nadine Mckenzie will perform together and encourage disabled artists to follow their dreams.

Mckenzie, a co-founder of Unmute, is a performer and aspiring choreographer. She will perform in a wheelchair.

Unmute’s operations manager Mpotseng Shuping said: “Since its inception in 2012 as a project, and then an official company in 2013, Unmute has taught a lot of pupils.

“He (Vellem) is currently teaching at a deaf school in Wynberg, and I am teaching at a disabled school in Astra. We are going to put them together and showcase their work here at Artscape on their Arts Ability Platform.”

Sifiso Kweyama, artistic director and choreographer at Jazzart Dance Theatre, added: “There is a special piece dedicated to women.

“We will surprise the audience with a flash-mob performance by a well-received dance piece by the trainees and the professionals.”
