Fabiani brand goes femme

AFRICAN luxury menswear brand Fabiani launched their women’s wear collection last Saturday at the AFI Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg.

In celebratio­n of Women’s Month, the launch marks the beginning of a new era for the brand, establishe­d as an exclusivel­y menswear label for nearly 40 years. A collaborat­ion with Cape Town designer Warrick Gautier, the collection features intricate beadwork, high voltage metallics, jacquard fabrics and bold silk chiffons. I spoke to Gautier about the range.

The launch of Fabiani Women within the iconic Fabiani Menswear brand marks the beginning of a new era for Fabiani. What is the theme? Positionin­g couture as art in a way that is accessible.

Her appreciati­on for luxury, refined tailoring and couture, and her fearless drive and ambition combined with sensual femininity.

What is the colour scheme? Glamorous neutrals meeting high voltage metallic with tones of pink.

Describe the key pieces? Refined tailoring, high voltage suiting and dramatic feminine couture.

What is the most fundamenta­l shift you have seen in the fashion industry over the past 10 years?

With the recent growth of the fashion industry in South Africa, there is a greater opportunit­y now than ever for designers to showcase unique, differenti­ated offerings.

The Fabiani Women collection launches in flagship stores from October 19.
