Positively bordering on the ridiculous

-

NEARLY 600 border collies gathered in a park in Adelaide recently to break an unofficial world record.

Organised by the Border Collie Owners of South Australia, more than $6 000 (R63 000) was raised as a result of the dog gathering, which saw 576 border collies playing in a park in Willaston Oval last Sunday.

The event was arranged in the hope of beating a 2013 record held by Dr Katrina Warren, who managed to get 534 border collies together at the same time.

Unfortunately, the record won’t be recognised by the Guinness Book of Records because it doesn’t credit breed-specific records. However, the group claims it is the largest gathering of border collies in history.

The organisers charged owners $5 per dog to take part.

The money raised from the event will be donated to three different dog charities: Scruffer Lovers, Guardian Angel and South Australia Dog Rescue.

Border collie cross-breeds were permitted to attend, as long as they looked like border collies, the event’s website states.

It wasn’t just about trying to break a record , the fun-filled day involved a variety of games, raffles and activities for the dogs and their owners and took seven months to plan.

There were a number of food and drink vendors on-site too, offering attendees refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Of course, there were plenty of dog-centric stalls too, including dog walkers, animal photographers and one stall selling bandanas for dogs.

There were even caffeine-inspired pick-me-ups on offer for the dogs themselves, with puppicino probiotic drinks on sale. – The Independent
