‘The Intern’ finalist to launch brand next year

- Thobile Mazibuko

HE WAS brought to our attention in The Intern by David Tlale,a reality show where 12 designers competed to become one of Tlale’s assistant designers.

Although Keletso Moraba did not win the competition, he is still Tlale’s designer while working on his other projects. Moraba, 23, from Limpopo, started designing garments five years ago.

The driven designer developed his craft at Central Johannesburg College last year.

“The experience on The Intern has been phenomenal; it has also helped me gain exposure because I am known by many people now. The clientele is also growing; while I work as one of Tlale’s designers, I’m also building my brand,” Moraba said.

At the Menlyn Fashion Experience held recently in Pretoria, Moraba showcased his new collection, Heaven, which was inspired by clouds and planets.

“The prints are clouds and planets, and I call this collection Heaven because I was flying, and when you see the clouds, it’s beautiful and you imagine what’s happening, which means heaven is a peaceful place.”

Being mentored by one of the best designers in the industry, Moraba has gained some recognition and learnt the fundamentals of being a successful designer. “Next year I’ll be launching my brand. My exit collection doesn’t say much about me, but with the coming year I promise something spectacular like bridal wear, evening wear, and the rest is a surprise,” he said.

The Heaven collection is available. Connect with Moraba on Instagram @keletso_moraba for more.
