Production­s and parties to see in the new year

CULTURE vultures remain spoilt for choice as Artscape Theatre Centre’s summer season continues with a host of exciting production­s featured below.

For those seeking a rip-roaring New Year’s Eve party, they need look no further than Artscape on the night of December 31. Cape Town City Ballet’s Cabaret Club opens that evening followed by a dance party on the piazza to ring in 2018. Jazz aficionado­s should book early for Camillo Lombards’ Nama Jazz Series II.

The Afrikaans production, Hartklop, speaks to matters of the heart as part of Foxwood Theatre and Artscape’s celebratio­n of 50 years of heart transplant­s. The Organ Donor Foundation will be present throughout the run for those who’d like to sign up as organ donors.

Evita, the original West End and Broadway production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic award-winning musical continues, while Cape Town City Ballet’s ever popular The Nutcracker runs from mid-December.

The world-famous Imperial Ice Stars, who have won internatio­nal critical acclaim and five-star reviews with their previous tours, are set to thrill South African audiences once more with their magical production, Cinderella on Ice, at Artscape Opera House from January 10, 2018.

The Cape Town Philharmon­ic Orchestra welcomes in the New Year with its traditiona­l Viennese New Year Concerts. Richard Cock will be on the podium. – Staff Reporter
