Warm wishes, but don’t relax those water-saving measures

-

CAPETONIANS, we have come to the end of another year and it has truly been a memorable 2017.

On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I want to take this opportunity to thank all residents for working with us in advancing the goals of this iconic city.

I also extend a warm welcome to everyone visiting our beautiful city.

Thank you for choosing Cape Town. Please enjoy the many diverse and exciting experiences in our city, but we ask that you work with us to save water during our worst drought in over 100 years.

I want to wish all our residents and visitors a wonderful holiday season, a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

As some residents head off to various holiday destinations with family and friends, it is also important to celebrate responsibly.

I urge everyone to take care on the roads, and please don’t drink and drive. I also appeal to parents who will be taking their children to the beach to please keep a watchful eye over the little ones at all times.

While we are celebrating, let us also be mindful that not all are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy this special time of the year.

I would like to call on Capetonians to spread kindness and joy to those less fortunate, in line with our efforts to build a caring and inclusive city.

This is an ideal time for everyone to take stock of our blessings and look at ways in which we can give back and do a little more to help those in need.

But while we are on holiday, the one thing we cannot relax is our water-saving effort.

Please continue to save water and work with the City to avoid Day Zero. We must all make sure that we preserve our precious water supplies.

Let us all celebrate the holidays responsibly.

I wish you all a merry Christmas, and may we all come back refreshed to continue taking Cape Town to the next level in 2018. Patricia de Lille Cape Town Mayor
