Naftogaz claims $2.56bn win

-

KIEV: Ukraine’s Naftogaz will seek revision of the gas transit tariffs despite the ruling of the Stockholm arbitration court that rejected that demand, Andriy Kobolyev, the chief executive of Naftogaz said.

On Wednesday, Naftogaz announced the final ruling of the Stockholm arbitration court in the case against Gazprom over the latter’s failure to supply agreed volumes of gas for transit. Of $17 billion (R202.82bn) claimed by Naftogaz, the court satisfied the claims for $4.673bn. Taking into account the amount of money previously given to Gazprom in relation with supply contract, the arbitrators offset counter claims, which resulted in Gazprom’s being obliged to pay $2.56bn to Naftogaz. Gazprom had said that the court rejected demands of Naftogaz to increase the tariff for gas transit from Russia.

“We will seek revision of the tariffs,” Kobolyev said.

The Naftogaz head noted that the company expects to receive the sum of $2.56bn from Gazprom as soon as possible.

“Technically, Gazprom has been obliged to pay this sum since yesterday evening. The interest rate for late payment is being calculated, it exceeds $500 000. We expect that they will pay this $2.56bn soon,” Kobolyev said, adding that the company prefers to receive the sum in cash.

Kobolyev noted that Naftogaz had already submitted a request to Gazprom on the date of payment. – Sputnik
