Burst meter ignored

-

ABOUT three weeks ago, the municipality installed a smart water meter at my residence, at 5 Scottsville Circle, Hout Bay.

Since then I have had no water. I subsequently had a professional company check for leaks, of which there were two, and had them fixed (three weeks ago).

We have visited the municipal office thrice and had reference numbers given to us – at least 10 phone calls with reference numbers but all to no avail.

On Friday evening, February 23, when I returned home from work, I noticed that the water meter had burst and was gushing water at probably 1 000 litres an hour. I contacted the water department, received a reference number, and explained the severity of the situation.

On Saturday morning, the pipe was still burst and I phoned again. No action and, as I write this letter (Sunday), the pipe is still gushing water. So, Friday to Sunday, 36 hours later, at about 1 000 litres an hour!

The water meter is outside my property on council ground.

What more can I say? WQ Pittaway Hout Bay
