DA’s model of success

-

THIS past week we were pleased to be able to announce that Day Zero will not occur in 2018, so long as the residents of Cape Town keep to their current water consumption levels.

This is welcome news for all residents and for the DA. We have shown in two months that DA governments remain the benchmark for doing what’s right in difficult times and being honest and open with the public.

This is why our brand is strongly associated with better, cleaner government for all and we must continue to live up to this brand wherever we govern.

We were only able to make this announcement because all of the residents of Cape Town have answered the call to Defeat Day Zero with inspiring commitment.

They have cut water consumption by 60% from 1.2 billion litres a day to 500 million litres a day.

This is an even better performance than what was achieved in California and Melbourne, which suffered similarly severe droughts in recent years.

This incredible united response from the public, the business community and the agricultural community has enabled this victory and we thank them all for their support.

We are truly all better when we work together.

We are also particularly grateful to the Groenvlei Water Users Association, a group of 117 farmers from the Overberg region, who have generously donated 10 billion litres of water to the residents of Cape Town from a dam they built themselves to stop water running into the sea.

While residents of Cape Town certainly cannot relax and must continue to save water diligently, this is an example of what we can achieve as a society when we work together.

This is the DA’s model. While others divide, we will unite. Portia Adams Spokesperson to the DA leader
