Plane ‘hijacker’ held
CAIRO: Egyptian prosecutors have ordered a 15-day detention of a man suspected of hijacking an EgyptAir plane in March 2016 pending further investigation.
Egyptian Seif-Eddin Mostafa, 61, wore a fake explosive belt and forced the crew of a plane en route from Alexandria to Cairo to reroute to Cyprus. All 55 passengers of the Airbus 320 were released unharmed before Cypriot authorities arrested him. Denied asylum, he was extradited to Egypt. Some reports said he was mentally unstable and wanted to see his Cypriot ex-wife.
