Chilima slammed for ‘violent’ electioneering
JOHANNESBURG: Former Malawi vice president Khumbo Kachali has accused incumbent vice president Saulos Chilima of using violence to promote his candidacy ahead of elections next year.
Kachali made his accusatory comments on Facebook, saying Chilima had shown the crowd at a United Transformation Movement rally in Mangochi in southern Malawi on Monday a slingshot, which he threatened to use against corrupt politicians once in power.
“It is simply not acceptable for the second citizen of this great nation to be brandishing a primitive and barbaric weapon of violence on a political podium and continuously, in a sadistic way, be demonstrating how he will unleash brutality on his political opponents come May 22, 2019,” wrote Kachali.
