Television
Salvation (M-Net 101, 5pm): In the second season premiere of this show about an asteroid on a collision course with Earth, the public learns about the impending disaster following a nuclear incident. and Brad Falchuk with their friend Tim Minear, who has been nominated for four Emmys for his role as AHS executive producer.
9-1-1 features Peter Krause (Parenthood) and Connie Britton (Nashville) in the ensemble cast, which includes Angela Bassett as LAPD sergeant Athena Grant. There’s something edgy to the storylines of each episode, as well as the backstories brimming with all the feels (don’t tell me you didn’t get a lump in your throat in last week’s episode when Bobby asked for help after relapsing) and it’s put together in a clever and classy format. The series has been renewed for a second season, with Jennifer Love Hewitt joining the cast.
Man’s Greatest Food (Food Network, Tuesday at 9pm): This channel has been the default background one on my TV for a while because a bit of food porn in between watching other things doesn’t go amiss.
I’ve caught bits of Roger Mooking in his Man Fire Food show on Mondays and I’m glad to be seeing him in something new. In this one, he’s travelling the country in a quest for gastronomic greatness, American style. Or America’s favourite foods. Each episode covers a category, with the top 15 dishes in each, and the first one is seafood.
SciJinks (Disovery Family, Wednesday at 6.30pm): Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) hosts this fun-filled programme that uses cutting-edge science to perform outrageous pranks, stunts and practical jokes.
With Tamara Robertson and Jason Latimer, he orchestrates a team of clever and inventive scientists who draw on their knowledge of chemistry, physics and engineering to perform pranks that introduce viewers to remarkable and unusual scientific discoveries.
