Shades of success at US contest

- RAPHAEL WOLF raphael.wolf@inl.co.za

THE world’s third greatest car window tinter is a South African. It was proven when automotive tinter John-Ross Arendse, 32, of Atlantis won bronze at the International Tint Off Competition in San Antonio, Texas, USA, last month.

Earlier last month, Arendse had proven himself South Africa’s best and most creative car window tinter when he won the inaugural Llumar SA Window Film Tint Off competition. His entry into the contest, against talented window film installers from around the world, had formed part of his prize for having won the first LLumar SA Window Film Tint Off competition.

The tinting process prevents potential criminals from smashing and grabbing into a vehicle as the tint makes the window shatter-proof and difficult to break, said Arendse. On his win bronze, he said: “Wow. I’m really proud of my achievement. I’ve just won first place in South Africa and now third place in the world, all in the same year.

“This means a lot to me, because not only am I flying South Africa’s banner high, but also those of Barons N1 City Barloworld, where I work, and LLumar Films SA, who organised the competition and sent me to San Antonio.”

LLumar Film SA Automotive Specialist Jimmy Herron said: “To do so well in the international competition is absolutely amazing. We know how tough the competition is internationally and given the fact that this was the first time he had ever competed in a national competition his result is exceptional,” he added.

Fitment Centre Manager at Barons VW N1 City Charlton Fredericks(cor) said: “John-Ross has put us on the map and it proves that South Africa has a wealth of talent. We are very proud that he is part of our team.”
