Cape Times - - METRO - Okuhle Hlati

A SUSPECT has handed himself over to the police over the killing of 20-year-old Gift of the Givers volunteer Ameerodien Noordien in Hanover Park last week.

Noordien was killed when he was caught in gang crossfire last Friday.

Police spokesperson André Traut said the suspect felt the pressure of investigating officers and handed himself in at the Philippi police station yesterday. “We are not ruling out that the suspect could be charged with more violent crimes.”

A manhunt was launched after Noordien’s death.

Devastated Hanover Park residents hailed him a hero. He was a breadwinner and helped care for his mother Fatima, who is on dialysis.

The arrest came three days after Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the area and vowed his members would catch Noordien’s killers. The Gift of the Givers aid worker had just returned from the Eastern Cape, where they had taken water to drought-hit farms. |
