Bodyboarder rescued at Kalk Bay

- Staff Writer

A LAW Enforcement Marine Unit officer and an unidentified surfer have been hailed for their heroic efforts after they rescued a bodyboarder who found himself in difficulty at the Kalk Bay reef.

The officer was watching the rough waters at the reef and noticed a person in the water who at first glance looked like a suspected poacher.

“When he drifted in among the kelp, the officer realised he was a bodyboarder who was in trouble.

“The officer, with no time to waste and in full uniform, entered the water, and was joined by a surfer.

“Together the two managed to retrieve the patient, who by then was being pounded among the rocks by the heavy surf,” said City law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyson.

He said the bodyboarder had serious multiple injuries, which included a suspected spinal injury.

He was taken to False Bay Hospital, Dyson said.
