- Staff Writer

SOUTH African film-makers will showcase their creations to secure partnerships for co-productions and position the South African film industry as a film-making destination when they take part in the American Film Market (AFM) that opened in Los Angeles yesterday.

The group is on an “Outward Film and Television Investment Mission” organised and funded by the Department of Trade and Industry.

The AFM is regarded as the world’s largest business market.

In addition to attending conferences, workshops, screenings, networking sessions, presentations and exhibitions, the film-makers will also visit a number of prominent American studios and production houses, including NBC, Sony and Disney.

“We are looking forward to interacting with sales agents and distributors, with the aim of raising finance for our projects that we are hoping to secure pre-sale commitments for.

“In addition, the market provides a perfect platform for networking with various stakeholders that are involved in film-making and convincing them to bring their dollars to South Africa,” said film-maker Wandile Molebatsi.
