Honouring African children
ELEVEN-year-old award-winning author Stacey Fru will honour children from around the Africa for their contribution towards motivating, growing and transforming Africa’s economy.
She will present the African Children of the Year Awards in Bramley, Joburg, tomorrow.
With the theme of “Elevating the African Child”, the awards recognise the contributions of Africa’s children towards motivating, growing and transforming its economy.
Initiated by the Stacey Fru Foundation, the awards will honour the creativity of African children.
Stacey’s mother, Victorine Mbong Shu, said: “Stacey is very excited to be hosting the African Children of the Year Awards… The dedication of the team at the Stacey Fru Foundation to draw nominees from all provinces of South Africa including Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Kenya is an indication that our children should be celebrated.”
Award categories will include arts and culture, philanthropy, leadership, education and skills development, community development, safety, sports, development, science and technology, and special mention. The ceremony will also recognise the work of Stacey. Two nominees from the Western Cape will attend the event. Stacey wrote her first book, Smelly Cats, at age 7.
The event starts at 12.30pm for 1pm at the Profound Conference Centre. Guests can dress in playtime wear and bring swimming kit. A table for eight people costs R5 000. Tickets for the event are R300 per adult and R50 per child.
