Henri van Breda rulling welcomed

-

THE National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the dismissal of triple axe-murderer Henri van Breda’s application for leave to appeal his sentence.

This decision confirmed the State’s position that he killed his family members, said the NPA.

The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) this week dismissed Van Breda’s application on the basis that there are no reasonable prospects for success and found there were no compelling reasons why the appeal should be heard.

NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said it hoped Van Breda would accept the SCA’s decision.

“We welcome that outcome as it confirmed our position that no other court would come to a different conclusion.

“The decision confirmed our position that Van Breda was the killer of his parents and his brother.

“He attempted to kill his sister. There was no intruder or anybody else who committed those gruesome crimes. We hope that he will accept the decision of the SCA.”

Van Breda, 23, was convicted in May for the murder of his mother, Teresa, 55, father Martin, 54, and brother Rudi, 22, as well as the attempted murder of his sister Marli, who was 16 at the time.

In August, he sought to have his three life terms, 15 years and further 12 months reviewed in the SCA. |
