Aunty Merle’s still a pearl

Win tickets to see Marc Lottering in action at Baxter

- STAFF WRITER

THE Baxter Theatre will come alive when comedic genius Marc Lottering continues with his beloved character, in Aunty Merle, the Musical.

The play, running until January 5 at 7.30pm nightly with Saturday matinee performances at 2pm, is set to be one of the highlights on the city’s December and January calendar.

Following two successful sold-out seasons at the Baxter Theatre and four Fleur du Cap nominations later, Lottering’s hit show, Aunty Merle, the Musical, returns with new cast members and some fresh plot twists as the drama unfolds in this fun masterpiece described by many as the “quintessential South African musical”.

It is directed by Lara Foot, with music written by Tarryn Lamb and Lottering, choreography by Grant van Ster, and musical direction by Alistair Izobell.

To stand a chance to win five double tickets for the Aunty Merle, the Musical show on December 17, SMS “CTAuntymerle” to 33528. SMS lines close today at 12pm.

Meanwhile, Club West End in Rylands, Athlone, will exit the year with “a bang” with the West End Jazz Fest on December 30. Choko from Trinidad and Tobago, who is quickly winning over local music fans with his Caribbean beats and energetic live performances, will be officially introduced to Cape Town music lovers on the night.

Other acts include powerful vocalist Vuvu Khumalo, the classy jazz band Top Dog SA featuring the evergreen Richard Ceaser and Donveno Prins, and the exciting young band SignatureSA. Led by musical genius Camillo Lombard, Top Dog SA comprise some of the most talented musicians in the country including vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Richard Ceasar and Donveno on saxophone.

Tickets for the West End Jazz Festival cost R80 at Computicket and all branches of Shoprite and Checkers. At the door on the evening they cost R100. Call 021 6379 132 for more information.
