Arms seized after Elsies River shoot­ing

PO­LICE re­cov­ered four firearms and am­mu­ni­tion fol­low­ing a shoot­ing in the Elsies River polic­ing Precinct at the week­end.

Po­lice spokesper­son An­dre Traut said mem­bers of the Tac­ti­cal Re­sponse Team re­sponded to a shoot­ing in­ci­dent in Avon­wood, Elsies River, and re­stored tran­quil­lity with their pres­ence.

“Our op­er­a­tional en­deav­ours to ad­dress gang vi­o­lence in this prov­ince re­sulted in four firearms be­ing seized in Elsies River.

“The area was thor­oughly searched in an at­tempt to ap­pre­hend those re­spon­si­ble for fir­ing the gun­shots.

“Al­though no one was ar­rested, our search re­cov­ered four firearms com­pris­ing four pis­tols and a re­volver, as well as an as­sort­ment of am­mu­ni­tion.

“We will con­tinue our ef­forts in the gang-af­fected ar­eas to root out the phe­nom­ena of vi­o­lence and the strong­hold that gang mem­bers be­lieve they have.”

Mean­while, lo­cal po­lice have ar­rested a 34-year-old sus­pect who was found in pos­ses­sion of a .38 Spe­cial re­volver and five rounds of am­mu­ni­tion fol­low­ing some search op­er­a­tions in the Hei­de­veld area. |
