Ruinous water levy hurts ratepayers

- BARRY COOPER Sunningdale

IN DECEMBER 2017, I wrote to you about the water levy of R100 a month being added to my rates bill. During the previous 12 months we had used about 27kl of water.

Towards the end of that period we had two tanks installed and during the last 12 months our water usage has fallen further. You can therefore appreciate my horror when I received the account for December with a levy of R200 as we have, apparently, a 20mm. input pipe.

I would like to know, as there is a water meter fitted, how this affects one’s usage. Thus my account for water is an amount of R13.68 plus R200!! I cannot think of any logical explanation other than screwing those who actually pay rates.

So much for co-operating to save water!!
