Knysna murder accused denied bail

THE 50-year-old man accused of killing a 67-year-old woman outside her home was denied bail when he appeared in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The man was arrested just minutes after the brutal attack on the woman in Sedgefield.

Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said: “(The accused), whose bail application was heard in the Knysna Magistrate’s court yesterday (Wednesday) and today, was remanded in custody pending further investigation. His bail was denied.”

Police said a preliminary investigation suggested that the accused had been armed with a hammer when the woman was attacked just outside her home.

The body of the deceased was discovered on the pavement, in front of her house, covered in blood.

The matter was postponed to March 29.
