Winx bets rivalling biggest placed on Black Caviar

TAB Australia has received unprecedented support on Winx to win Saturday’s Group 2 WFA The Star Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick with the two biggest ever bets placed on her in the past 24 hours.

On Wednesday afternoon, a TAB customer plonked $250,000 at $1.08 on the champion mare for a potential profit of $20,000.

After easing to $1.09 this morning, a different TAB punter wagered $225,000 at $1.09 on the four-time Cox Plate winner and is eyeing a profit of $20,250.

In addition to these two wagers, another TAB punter placed $150,000 at $1.10 minutes after the final field was announced for Saturday’s Apollo Stakes as Winx attempts to extend her winning streak to 30 races.

“The amount of money that TAB has received since the confirmation of the Apollo Stakes field has been staggering in terms of the size of the bets that have been placed,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.

“The bets of $250,000 at $1.08 yesterday and $225,000 at $1.09 this morning have usurped the $201,200 wager at $1.22 that was plonked on Winx to win last year’s Cox Plate on the morning of the race.”

The $250,000 bet on Winx to win Saturday’s Apollo Stakes now rivals the largest Fixed Odds wager ever placed with TAB on Black Caviar during her unbeaten 25-start career.

“In her final race, one TAB punter wagered $250,000 at $1.14 on Black Caviar to win the 2013 T.J. Smith Stakes at Royal Randwick which delivered a profit of $35,000,” Langskaill said.
