7 Labour members quit over Corbyn
SEVEN prominent members of Britain’s main opposition Labour Party have resigned from the party to protest against the leadership style of party leader Jeremy Corbyn.
The lawmakers criticised the party’s stance on Brexit and the handling of anti-Semitic tendencies in the party. They would henceforth perform their duties as independent members of parliament, Luciana Berger said at a press conference in London.
The move came days after British police said they had launched a probe into allegations of anti-Semitic hate crimes by Labour Party members. Allegations of anti-Semitism within the party have been made for some years, including against Corbyn.
The resignation of member of parliament Chuka Umunna, considered a rising star in the party, could hit the party especially hard. Umunna leads a group that is calling for a second Brexit referendum.
