Supply trucks in Wilderness after water main damaged

- Writer | Staff

DAMAGE to a water main in the Wilderness area along the Garden Route has resulted in low water pressure and water trucks being used to maintain reservoir levels.

The George Municipality’s civil engineering directorate said following feedback from a safety specialist on the status of the Kaaiman’s Railway Bridge, repair work on the main was expected to start today.

Damage to the main occurred on Sunday.

“Water trucks are still being used to attempt to maintain the levels of the reservoir and consumers are urged to keep water consumption to a minimum to allow the trucks to maintain the level, thus allowing the entire area access to water, albeit at low pressure. The civil engineering directorate will hire additional water trucks and will also make use of the new fire services truck (35 000 litres) to continue filling up the reservoir,” the municipality’s spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Klose, said.

Three water trucks would remain stationed at the Wilderness Heights shop, on the corner of Silver and Whites Roads and at Remskoen Road, for residents to collect water.

“Please note, these water trucks do need to refill at times, so if they are not seen, they will return,” EdwardsKlose said.

“George Municipality apologises for the inconvenience and assures the public that the repair efforts are being expedited as quickly as is possible given the difficult location of the failure and all safety concerns having to be addressed,” she added.
