AMAZULU may be languishing at the foot of the Premiership table, but they are not panicking.

Usuthu are 12th on the log with 16 points after 14 league outings.

They are three points ahead of bottom side Polokwane City.

AmaZulu team manager Qedi Dlamini says they are not pressing any panic buttons, despite being in the relegation zone.

“We are worried about our situation, but we are not panicking.

“We believe that we have a good team.

“But our attitude needs to change,” Dlamini said.

Usuthu have been synonymous with relegation battles over the last few years, but that is something that Dlamini wants his team to change.

“Our club can’t take this further. These players are failing to take advantage of the bonuses that they receive. We have special bonuses, but they are failing to exploit these bonuses.

“Our players always get 50% of the prize money that the club receive in cup competitions. They got win bonuses,” he added.

Usuthu have under-performed over the past two decades.

The last time they won any silverware was back in 1992, when they lifted the Coca-Cola Cup under the guidance of Clive Barker.

“It is no longer going to be about just being at AmaZulu.

“It has to be about working at AmaZulu.

“We are going to be performance-driven now. We want people that will perform for the club,” Dlamini said.

The KZN outfit will face Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at 8.15pm at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

“Relegation is not something that is in our minds, we are not thinking about that.

“January is very critical. It is going to decide a lot about relegation, top eight and the league.

“We have six games in four weeks. We are targeting 12 points – that will be good for us.

“We can then start to challenge for the top eight,” Dlamini said.
