Poms show us how to down a pint or 700

ENGLISH cricket fans have certainly made a very respectable dent in the stocks of lager and gin and tonic at Table Bay Hotel, says its spokesperson Tamra Capstick-Dale.

Capstick-Dale was comparing the way the English cricket team’s fans celebrated last week’s victory over South Africa with their celebrations of their team’s 2016 win over South Africa.

Of the British fans’ 2016 celebrations, a Cape Times report read: “They came, they drank and they conquered. Not only did the English show us a thing, or two, on the cricket field, they taught us how to celebrate victory.”

The report said that the 140-member group had downed more than 700 beers, with the then Sun International group general manager noting that it had been the only time that “that amount of people had managed to wipe out our beer stock in 20 minutes”.

Commenting on British cricket fans’ celebrations of last week’s England victory over South Africa, Capstick-Dale said: “The English cricket fans always know how to celebrate, whether they win or lose, and they’re great sports. This year was definitely no exception. While we don’t have the exact numbers yet, because we’re waiting for more fans to arrive at month-end for the One Day International, what we can certainly say is that they made a very respectable dent in our stocks of lager, and gin and tonic.

“Fortunately, we had prepared very well, given our past experience with English cricket fans.”
