TOMORROW Kenilworth Racecourse will spring to life with bursts of colour, rhythmic beats and equestrian champions.

The 2020 Sun Met brings together fashionistas, party-goers and eager punters to enjoy Africa’s Richest Race Day. Fashionistas go all out on their outfits.

Every year, Sun Met attendees are challenged to create outfits to match a theme.

This year’s theme is “African Luxury: Visionaries”.

It is inspired by forward-thinkers and creatives in celebration of luxury. Joining the narrative is Masa Mara to offer an immersive tale that will elicit passion and courage in the wearer, and portray the creativity inspired by sights found only in Africa.

We saw Miss South Africa SashaLee Oliver and Miss South Africa finalist Chuma Matsaluka frolicking on Muizenberg beach at the horse’s spa day, wearing garments designed by Masa Mara. Will we see Miss SA in bright bold prints on Met day?

While talking to Matsaluka, she mentioned that she looked forward to seeing vibrant African prints on the day.

Other visionaries include Imprint and Palesa Mokubung.

Imprint ZA’s flamboyant, brave, and bold creations reflect our African roots, while displaying the uncapped potential on this continent.

It’s difficult to miss Imprint designer Mzukisi’s designs at big social events. His full floor-length dresses for women and edgy menswear designs, combined with his locally produced printed fabrics, are sure to have a strong presence.

Mokubung has revolutionised the fashion industry as an African forerunner. She has paved the way for future African designers, and collaborated with international retail giants. Her designs are effortlessly elegant.

The above designers are known for combining bold African prints with designs varying from classic to avantgarde.

The highlight of the Sun Met is seeing what the celebrities will wear. One we eagerly await is the queen of luxury, Bonang Matheba. She brings glamour to any event she attends. Because her House of BNG MCC is the Official Celebration Partner to the Sun Met, we can expect her to reign supreme.

We have often seen Matheba in Gert-Johan Coetzee designs We rarely see her in wild prints, so I will be surprised to see her sporting them to the Met.
