SUPERSPORT United striker Bradley Grobler has vowed to pip Orlando Pirates’ Gabadinho Mhango in the race for the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot.

Mhango currently leads the leading PSL goalscorers’ chart with 14 goals, but Grobler is hot on his heels with 10 strikes.

“If you are a striker and you don’t want to be a top goalscorer, you are wasting your time. It is every striker’s his desire to win the top goalscorer award,” said Grobler who believes there are still enough matches (nine) left in the season for him to surpass the Malawian striker.

“It is going to be a very interesting race.

“There’s still a lot of good players who have scored more goals this season.

“A lot of strikers are scoring regularly and that’s why I’m saying it is going to be interesting.”

Grobler is not only scoring goals for his club, but the 32-year-old is also creating goals for his colleagues. He has two assists to his name in 18 league appearances.

The battle for the golden boot is currently between Mhango (14), Bongi Ntuli (11) of AmaZulu, Samir Nurkovic of Kaizer Chiefs and Grobler (10).

“My main target this season was to play games week in and week out. Whatever goals came would be a bonus,” Grobler said. “I want to be playing every week and finish the season strong. Of course, I’ll fight until the last day to be a top goalscorer. But I’m just happy to be playing.”

The SuperSport fans will be looking to him to deliver the goods this weekend when they lock horns with Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup.

Matsatsantsa are chasing a Cup double having already bagged the MTN8 this season. They have won the Nedbank Cup twice in the last five years.
