Whizz Of Odds can go well again

- ANDREW HARRISON MICHAEL CLOWER

WHIZZ OF ODDS showed class when going from a maiden into a MR90 handicap and winning. There was talk of the SA Fillies Sprint after that race by Gavin van Zyl and Warren Kennedy but next time out she found Candy Galore a handful and dreams of the Hollywoodbets Scottsville Gr1 on hold. But the latter is no slouch and found her best form on the day.

Whizz Of Odds lines up on the Hollywoodbets Greyville poly today and the synthetic surface will hold no fears as she shed her maiden on the surface and is fancied to go in again.

The Michael Roberts-trained Be Happy is holding form and should be a threat.

She goes well over this trip and was on the heels of Whizz Of Odds when last they met and should be right there again. Others to consider are Coyote Girl who has a light weight from a good draw and can give plenty of cheek while Queen Of The Alamo finished runner up to Whizz Of Odds at her last start and is 1 kg better off at the weights.

There were a few upset results at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last Sunday but the trick for punters is being able to identify races where an upset result in likely.

The Greyville Convention Centre Handicap strikes as a race that fits the bill - a maximum field of fillies and mares, the majority with some form to back their claims.

Howells

Duncan Howells has been unusually quiet of late but hasn’t lost his sense of humour.

“I had a winner yesterday, but it didn’t have a jockey,” he quipped on the gallops on Monday, High Voltage losing his rider shortly after the start.

Howells will be looking to Barinois to break the drought.

The filly gallops with an unusually high head carriage and was sent to the front over the poly mile last time out, catching most of the field by surprise before being reeled in by Arizona Sunset.

Two winners have come out of that race and the drop to 1400m could be what the doctor ordered.

With a 1.5kg claimer up again on her best surface she should be competitive.

Sea Venture is struggling a little for her second win but has been racing in stronger company.

She may find this trip a touch on the sharp side but is still a big runner.

Different Light was not far back in Graduation company last time out and shed her maiden on the poly.

If staying the extra furlong, she should be a big runner.

Sanskrit has dropped from a rating of 90 to her current mark of 78 after disappointing on a number of occasions.

She was given a further 2kg relief after her last run and cannot be written off.

Fade To Black has been coming along on the right way since moving to Dean

Kannemeyer’s KZN string.

He makes his poly debut but from a good draw should at least be competitive and can get the Pick 6 off to a sound start in the third.

Let’s Blaze

Let’s Blaze was close-up behind Fade To Black when last they met and should be right up there with him but the draw he draw could be a factor.

The fourth is another wide open affair. Kannemeyer will be looking for a quick double as Dutch Alley, who heads the anti-post market, shows some promise and won well second time out in blinkers.

The extra should suit and he can follow up. Mutawaary is at surprisingly long odds considering his current form in strong company and is never far back.

However, his recent best has been over shorter but he did have form over this trip earlier in his career.

Double Expresso is never far back and caught the eye when a close-up finish from a bad draw last time out.

On that showing the mile should be within his compass and he has a better draw this time around.
