‘Swan Lake’ floats back to city’s shore
Performances sold out across the globe
FOLLOWING sold-out seasons in London, Paris and Sydney, St Petersburg Ballet Theatre’s Swan Lake is gearing up to run Cape Town at the Artscape Opera House in April.
Founding director of the St Petersburg Ballet Konstantin Tachkin said: “I am constantly delighted and encouraged when I see more and more people – young and old – coming to our performances. From London’s Coliseum Theatre to the Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, and Hong Kong to Sydney, our unequalled Russian art performs to full houses and standing ovations. Led by prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova, I guarantee our performances in South Africa will long be remembered”.
First performed in St Petersburg in 1895, the immortal Swan Lake, with its unrivalled “white acts”, its dramatic ballroom scene, music and deeply moving story, is everything one can expect from Russian classical ballet.
“The theatre is proud of its homegrown principals, soloists and character dancers who have come to maturity within the company – Anna Samostrelova, Dmitry Akulinin, Dymchik Saykeev, Dmitry Shevtsov, Mikhail Tkachuk, German Schneider, Konstantin Tkachuk, Ekaterina Geraskina, Erkin Rakhmatullaev and others represent the kernel of the company’s creative potential and are the warranty for its success,” organisers said.
