Local youth take part in exciting ‘Game of Drones’
“It has really been most rewarding for both them and us Marshall Nelson YMN director
YOUTH Media Movement (YMM) in conjunction with the media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT Seta) recently held a certification ceremony dubbed the “Game of Drones” for learners and course participants who completed a three-month drone building programme.
The course was offered to youths from the Cape Flats and included 26 disabled participants.
“They are faced with many challenges and are excluded from so many opportunities. It has really been most rewarding for both them and us to witness their enthusiasm and excitement at the prospect of being included in the 4IR through this training module, which we see as a start to their development in the industry,” YMN director Marshall Nelson said.
The event, held at Glendale High
School in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, was attended by representatives from the provincial Education Department, MICT Seta and the Department of Communications.
On behalf of Communication Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, Ayanda Mbolelwa wished the group well.
“Looking around this room, I see agents of change on so many faces. I know getting here required hard work and sacrifice from both our graduates and their families. Congratulations to you all.
“The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) is here, and it is changing the way we work and live.
“Technology is changing industry at the speed of light and with no signs of slowing down.
“With the kind of training you have received here at YMM, the sky is the limit in your future careers and there is no turning back,” Mbolelwa said.
