Let’s pray and act against abuse, virus

- REVEREND STEVEN-JOHN BAM | Calvyn Protestant Church Presbytery of Athlone

THE recent spate of genderbased attacks, abuse and total immorality continues to disturb the consciousness of our society.

The Calvyn Protestant Church as part of its 69th conference took a stand in solidarity and activism on Klipfontein Road, Athlone, against this clear and present danger and on-going violence.

The church says enough is enough and prays for an end to this period of darkness and fear. The Calvyn Protestant Church prays for the dignity of life to be restored in our communities and that safe zones for children once more be created.

The mantra of “your child is my child” needs to once more be lived out and prayed into reality.

On Sunday, the Calvyn Protestant Church formed a human chain and took its service to the streets in active witness for gender-based violence to be brought to an end.

The 69th conference decided to actively engage with the fear and trepidation experienced with the current Covid-19 virus.

The meeting acknowledged the concerns of its members and the country. The church, together with its ecumenical partners, prays for a sustainable cure and solution for this virus.

The meeting decided to continually advocate for healthy lifestyles and responsible living. To this end the presbytery has asked every church on the last Sunday of every month to implement awareness drives on different health issues. The 69th Conference of the Presbytery of Athlone wishes everyone a blessed lenten season.
