AN EXTRA SPECIAL MOTHER’S DAY

How are those Mother’s Day plans coming along? Given the unusual state of affairs due to the Covid-19 lockdown, Sacha Van Niekerk has some thoughtful suggestions on spoiling her and the important mother figures in your life...

MOTHER’S Day is different this year. There will be no booking out a table at a restaurant, no spa trips and most of the family will not be together. Nevertheless, we should all still be showing thanks to the motherly figures in our lives and the best way to do that is through food. Not just standard cold eggs and burnt toast in bed, oh no, we’re going all out with a few lockdown food experiences to spoil mom with.

There is nothing quite like the laid back atmosphere of a picnic.

Even with a lockdown, picnics are still such a fun way to celebrate mothers.

Whether you have a garden or not, you can always build your own cosy space on the living room floor or balcony and pack a basket filled with all her favourite treats. Fairy lights, cushions scattered over a patterned rug and snacks to complete the picture, and you’ll have yourself a setting straight from Pinterest.

Now that you’ve got the ambiance sorted, it’s time to think about the food. For that, we suggest a cheese board. They’re classy, yet unpretentious and reminiscent of visits to the wine farms, plus they combine the perfect mix of sweet and savoury to compliment the special occasion.
